The Indian Cultural Centre (ICC) Suva was the first Cultural Centre abroad established by ICCR, founded in 1972. India and Fiji share deep historical and cultural bonds — on 14 May 1879, the ship "Leonidas" brought the first indentured workers from India to Fiji's shores. Their descendants, now in their fifth generation, form nearly 38% of Fiji's population and remain a vital part of its economic, political and social fabric.
Classes — ICC Suva
Carnatic Vocal Music, Kathak, Bharatanatyam, Tabla, Harmonium with Vocal, Yoga and Hindi. All classes are free, conducted in three groups — Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced — with a standardised syllabus.
Classes — ICC Lautoka
Sub-Centre in Lautoka offering Bharatanatyam Dance, Tabla, Harmonium with Vocal and Yoga — also free of charge, conducted by part-time local teachers in standardised groups.
Cultural Programmes
Cultural evenings, exhibitions, film shows, dance and music performances, seminars and workshops organised alongside regular class activities throughout the year.
Outreach
Gifting of books and musical instruments to communities, plus lecture-cum-demonstration sessions on aspects of Indian culture and heritage across Fiji.
50 Years of ICC in Fiji
A year-long Festival of India was organised to commemorate 40 years of the ICC's existence in Fiji in 2011–12 — reflecting the Centre's enduring contribution to India-Fiji cultural relations since its establishment in 1972.
Indian Diaspora
The Indian community — descendants of indentured workers who arrived in 1879 — forms nearly 38% of Fiji's population. Their presence has greatly strengthened bilateral relations and kept Indian cultural traditions alive in the Pacific.
