Q Where and how should I apply for ICCR scholarships?
A
Interested applicants should register and apply on the A2A ICCR Scholarship Portal (a2ascholarships.iccr.gov.in) and submit their applications through the Indian Embassy in their country.
Q Can I apply from any other location than my country?
A
Since the applications are to be filled online, you can apply on the A2A ICCR Scholarship portal from any other location. However, the online applications will have to be submitted through the Indian Embassy in your country.
Q Will my application be accepted in hard copy or by post?
A
No, only online applications will be accepted.
Q How can I submit my online application? Do I need a User ID and Password?
A
Check the "Student's Registration" option on the home page of the A2A ICCR Scholarship Portal. On registration you will receive a unique User ID and Password by email. Use these to access and fill the application form. Click "Save" after each page, then proceed to the next. Once complete, press "Submit" — you will receive a registration number for future reference.
Q Can I make changes once I have submitted my application?
A
No, changes cannot be made once your application is finally submitted. However, in case of any major discrepancy, you may contact the Indian Mission.
Q Is submission of application a guarantee of admission?
A
No. Admission is decided by the University based on your credentials and their own eligibility criteria. The Indian Mission and ICCR have no role in the admission process, and confirmation of admission is non-transferable.
Q Can I select the University or Institution of my choice?
A
Yes, you can apply for up to five options. However, admission is subject to meeting the criteria of the concerned university.
Q Is ICCR scholarship available for Medical courses?
A
No, ICCR does not offer scholarships for courses in the medicine stream.
Q What kind of Visa is required for studying in India?
A
Applicants seeking UG/PG admissions require a Student Visa. Those seeking PhD admissions require a Research Visa. Apply for the correct visa category after admission is confirmed — incorrect visa may result in repatriation.
Q What documents are required at the time of admission?
A
Carry the following documents in English and in Original for verification:
  • Mark Sheets
  • Birth Certificate
  • School Leaving Certificate
  • Nationality Certificate
  • D Card provided by your Government
  • Valid Passport
Q Can I apply to any University or Institution in India?
A
ICCR scholarships are only for admissions in Indian State/Central universities, institutes or colleges affiliated to and recognised by Indian State and Central Universities. The list of empanelled institutions is available on the A2A Portal.
Q What programmes are available?
A
Indian Universities offer courses at Under Graduate (UG), Post Graduate (PG) and Ph.D. (Doctorate of Philosophy) level. You can apply based on your eligibility.
Q Can I join after the last date of joining my course?
A
Applicants should join preferably one or two days before the final joining date. If the student is unable to join before the University deadline, their admission will be considered cancelled.
Q Is an interview required for Ph.D. admission?
A
It depends on the concerned University. Some universities may conduct an interview before selecting candidates — applicants should be prepared for this possibility.
Q What formalities are required on arrival in India and how do I get my scholarship dues?
A
  • Register with local FRRO (Foreign Regional Registration Office) within two weeks of arrival.
  • Obtain a Residential Permit within 90 days.
  • Open a State Bank of India account using the ICCR letter and bank opening form. Carry passport-size photographs.
  • Three months advance stipend will be released via direct bank transfer once your account is opened and registered with ICCR.
  • Carry sufficient funds to cover initial expenses as no money is paid until the bank account is operational.
Q What is the scholarship amount?
A
Please refer to the Financial Terms and Conditions for scholarship available on the A2A Portal.
Q Whom should I contact in case of emergency?
A
Contact the College authorities, International Students' Advisor and ICCR's Zonal Office. If required, contact the local police in your study city and the Scholarship Officer at ICCR HQs, Delhi.
Q Can I apply for a programme not listed on the portal?
A
No, only enlisted programmes are on offer.
Q Can I stay in India after my course is finished?
A
No. You must leave India after receiving your provisional marksheets/certificates and before the expiry of your Residential Permit.
Q Can I work in India during my studies?
A
No, you are not allowed to work in India while studying under ICCR scholarship.
Q Do I need a Passport?
A
Yes, you must have a valid passport issued by the relevant authorities of your government.
Q Do I need Immunization?
A
Immunization requirements vary from country to country. Please check with your local authorities or Indian Mission for information on this subject.
Q Can I study double courses during my stay in India?
A
Under the ICCR Scholarship programme you can pursue only one course to which you are admitted.
Q What are the academic requirements for joining an Under-Graduate course?
A
The student should have passed the 12th Standard (or equivalent) for joining an Under-Graduate course.
Q Is the degree awarded by an Indian University recognised?
A
The degree is awarded by the University. Before applying, check with the Qualifications Assessment Department in your country regarding the equivalence of degrees awarded in India.
Q Can I take a print-out of my application?
A
Yes, you can take a print-out of your application at any stage.
Q Am I entitled to an air-ticket under this scholarship?
A
Some schemes include provision for a to-and-fro air ticket, but not all. This varies by country and course type. For further details, refer to the ICCR Manual available on the ICCR website.
Q Should I carry money on arrival in India?
A
Yes, carry money in a currency exchangeable to Indian Rupees to cover incidental expenses until you receive your advance stipend and join the University.
Q Where can I exchange money on arrival in India?
A
On arrival in India, you can exchange money at the airport where you have landed.
Q What challenges should I expect to face?
A
Students — especially those leaving home for the first time — may experience homesickness, loneliness and language barriers. Some may also experience culture shock. Indians believe in "Athithi Devo Bhava" — Guests are like God — and treat foreigners with respect. India has a lot to offer. We wish you the very best!
Q Is English proficiency mandatory for studying in Indian Universities?

Yes. Since the medium of instruction in Indian Universities is English, students from abroad are required to be sufficiently proficient in English to properly attend academic lectures and complete coursework.
