Introduction

Indian Chairs Abroad

ICCR, in consultation with Indian Missions abroad, establishes Chairs of Indian Studies (Political Science, Philosophy, History, Sociology, Economics, Buddhist Studies & Law) & Indian Languages (Sanskrit, Hindi, Urdu & Tamil) in different foreign universities/ institutes across the globe. The Chairs are based on signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The objective of the Chair is to generate intent & interest in India amongst foreign students. The Chairs are set up in pursuance of the long-term goal of creating greater understanding and awareness about India and Indian Civilization amongst the global community of academician and thinkers. These Chairs are deputed for a period of one semester, one academic year and two years (extendable further on mutual consent of all parties) and are called short-term/ long-term Chairs. Indian faculties, deputed to these Chairs, not only teach courses on various aspects of India from Politics / Economy to Society & Culture, but through other academic activities like guidance research, conduct seminars and co-ordinations, publications, delivering public lectures, generate scholarly interactions with the academics of that country as well as students and assist in disseminating information on India and in creating a better appreciation of various India related issues.
