The Cultural Centre of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations of India was established in September 2016 Hanoi The centre was inaugurated on 20th April 2017 by MoS for External Affairs, Gen. V.K. Singh and the Deputy/Vice Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Vietnam, Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Thien. The cultural centre was renamed by MEA as Swami Vivekananda Cultural Center (SVCC) in August 2018, to mark the 125th anniversary of Swami Vivekananda’s famous Chicago speech in 1893.
The Centre promotes bilateral cultural linkages between India and Vietnam by organizing cultural programmes, cultural seminars, workshops and trainings engaging India based Gurus professionals and trainers for Yoga, Sanskrit, Indian classical vocal/Instrumental Music and Indian Kuchipudi Dance. It also holds photo exhibitions, film screenings, lectures and Indian festivals and arranges Yoga classes in three levels - Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced level.
The Centre’s library has a collection of over 2,500 books, magazines and a number of CDs and DVDs on various aspects of Indian art, culture, nature, tourism and many more. The core collection include books on well-known Indian luminaries like Guru Nanak, Sant Tukaram, Mahatma Gandhi, Rabindranath Tagore, Kuvempu and Suryakanth Tripathi Nirala. The subjects are varied such as Hindu and Buddhist art, iconography, culture, history, philosophy, dharma, literature, sports, films, politics and foreign policy of India. The library also has children section that displays books on stories of ancient times and new Indian hero’s, heroines from Amar Chitra Katha series. The books are mainly available in three languages: English, Hindi and Vietnamese.
SVCC has nurtured relationship with Vietnamese people to strengthen cooperation with local organizations including Indian Studies institutes, Universities, National Library of Vietnam and regional/national friendship associations through outreach events like arranging seminars and exhibitions on stunning aspects of Indian culture.
To commemorate the 150 birth anniversary year of Mahatma Gandhiji ICCR has made arrangements to send Gandhjis bust, which was inaugurated by Honorable External Affair Minister Smt Sushma Swaraj in August 2018 that become an attraction for the travelers and Vietnamese nationals.
The centre organizes Cultural festivals of India series which covers range of Indian festivals including Holi, Diwali, and Ganesha, which gives a cultural immersion experience to the people. Besides these agriculture, use of rice, meditation, love and respect for Buddha, and the friendly nature of peace loving citizens have become the common bonding factors between India and Vietnam.
Da Nang Cham Museum of Cham sculpture managed is dedicated to Hindu Buddhist sculpture, architecture found in Vietnam. Myson sanctuary which was the most sacred place for people of Champa kingdom has over 70 structures of brick and stone, most of which were dedicated to Shiva. They are gradually catching attention of global community and researchers.
