Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre (SVCC) Dar es Salaam, established in 2010 under the aegis of the High Commission of India, is located at 225, Toure Drive, Oyster Bay, Dar es Salaam with facilities for classes and public performances.
Classes Offered
Tabla, keyboard and Indian classical music at SVCC premises and partner organisations. Yoga classes Mon–Fri. Hindi language classes every Saturday and Sunday.
Staff & Faculty
Director heads the Centre, supported by one Teacher of Indian Culture (Yoga) and one Tabla teacher, both deployed by ICCR for a two-year tenure.
Cultural Performances
Coordinates performances by ICCR-sponsored artists and groups from India. Notable: Namaste Tanzania festival — 18 performances by six cultural groups across 8 cities in 2016.
Gandhi Jayanti
Every 2nd October, SVCC organizes Gandhi Jayanti celebrations at Mahatma Gandhi's bust at the University of Dar es Salaam, installed since 2014.
International Day of Yoga
IDY 2018 celebrated at Uhuru Stadium with over 4,000 participants. Events coordinated in at least 8 towns across Tanzania including Arusha, Mwanza and Dodoma.
ICCR Chair & Academia
ICCR Chair established at the University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM) in 2017. SVCC coordinated a 2-day ICWA Conference in January 2018 with scholars from 14 EAC & SADC countries.
