International Yoga Day

ICCR has been assigned the responsibility of facilitating the celebration of the International Day of Yoga by Indian Missions/Posts abroad since 2015. The scope of the celebration of IDY has been extended substantially since then. IDY celebrations, which were initially restricted to capital cities only, have spread all across foreign countries. Indian Missions and Posts get voluntary participation/support by India’s leading and internationally renowned Yoga organizations/institutions like Gayatri Parivar, Art of Living, Mokshyatan, Gayatri Parivar, Brahmakumaris, Patanjali, Iyengar Yoga, Sivananda Yoga etc. in addition to that of the local Government, Yoga institutions and Indian community associations in the IDY celebrations in different cities. Local dignitaries and eminent personalities participate in the IDY events organized by the Missions/Posts. IDY celebrations are organized by most of the Indian Missions/Posts with partial financial assistance from ICCR. ICCR organizes special event for foreign diplomats in Delhi at the Pravasi Bhartiya Kendra.

International Day Of Yoga (IDY) : 2020-21

1. IDY 2020 was celebrated across the globe mostly in a virtual mode due to COVID-19 restrictions on public gatherings. ICCR facilitated the celebration of the 6th International day of Yoga -2020 in 147 countries through 114 Missions and 39 posts.

2. A video blogging contest “My Life My Yoga” in partnership with Ministry of AYUSH was organized. A total of 2533 entries were received from international participants, out of which nine entries have won the globe prizes in various categories.

Yoga Certifications exams for yoga professionals through ICCs/Missions

The Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) has signed an MoU with Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga (MDNIY) to facilitate promotion of Yoga science and Philosophy across the world through the ICCR Cultural Centres abroad. ICCR has become the Personnel Certification Body (Pr.CB) of the Yoga Certification Board (until October, 2021). As an approved PrCB, the Council / ICCs / Missions are in process to conduct YCB certification exams for yoga professionals under the various categories.

International Day Of Yoga (IDY) : 2021-22

IDY 2021 was celebrated across the globe in a virtual /physical mode due to COVID-19 restrictions on public gatherings. ICCR facilitated the celebration of the 7th International day of Yoga -2021 in 174 countries through 125 Missions and 50 posts.

Horizon series Programmes at Regional Offices

Besides online streaming of Horizon Series programmes in Regional Offices, the Council also initiated a special campaign “Kala Vishwa” from June- November 2021. This include virtual programmes not only by performing artists but also by artisans / fine artists.

International Day Of Yoga (IDY) : 2022-23

ICCR facilitated the celebration of the 8th International day of Yoga -2022 in 178 countries through 127 Missions and 49 posts. Furthermore, a special project/ event “Global Yoga Ring” was also conducted through 53 Missions/Posts, (selected by XP Division of MEA), as part of celebration of IDY 2022

Horizon series Programmes at Regional Offices

• Cultural Programmes are organised by ICCR Regional offices under Horizon Series programmes at their respective regions

• In addition to the above, requests likely to be received for the programmes by some individual foreign groups from Missions aborad and for the programmes at Hyderabad house for the banquets to be hosted by Hon’ble PM, other events of protocol, MEA and other ministries.
